Terms of service

A bit of background: The hospitality industry loses millions each year due to guests not fulfilling their bookings, e.g. booking a table, a brew day, a brewery tour, or planning an event, and then not turning up.

To help encourage you, our lovely guests, to stick to our arrangements, we ask for a deposit when you make a booking with us:
£5 per person for tables and % of the total bill if its an event.

The following info explains the steps to take when making a booking* with The Dancing Man.
*when we say ‘table reservation’, we mean any booking including a meal.

Making a table reservation for 9 people or less

please detail your plans: the number of people, and a time and date. No deposit required.

Making a table reservation for groups of 10+

  2. TDM will email a ‘pre order form’ (there’s a copy of the menu on the website) and a deposit request for £5 per head
  3. You send back a completed pre order form and pay deposit
  4. TDM will confirm your booking via email.
n.b Please note there is a 10% service charge added to tables of 10 and over

Additional info for Brew Days/Brew School:
For your safety and comfort please wear non-slip, sturdy shoes, boots or wellies to protect your feet. And please don’t wear your Sunday best as we cannot be held responsible for any damage to you or your best jumper (nothing should happen but it is best to be prepared). Brewing is a messy business so you need to be in good health for your brew day.

Pay strict attention to the rules and regulations of the brewery – this is a working brewery, with hot liquid and a list of do’s and don’t. Any behaviour deemed to put people, the equipment or the building at risk may result in you being asked to leave. You won’t be entitled to a refund.

Booking a brewery tour

  1. Check our website for information and pricing (minimum of 6 people per tour) and submit an enquiry form
  2. TDM will confirm dates and booking via email
  3. You pay on the day

Late for your booking?

Please let us know. If we don’t hear from you and you are more than 30 minutes late, you could lose your deposit and table – please call 023 8083 6666.
Just to explain: our kitchen closes at 9pm. If you book a table for 8.30pm and are 30 minutes late, you might arrive as the kitchen has closed. In this situation we would be unable to provide you with the food you were looking forward to.

Last orders for food

Our kitchen closes at 9pm. This means that all of the food orders for the day are cooked and served in time for 9pm closing of the kitchen. Don’t be fooled if you see the kitchen team slaving away past 9pm – they’re cleaning up the kitchen and prepping for the following day.

Changes and cancellations to your booking

What happens if you have to make a change to your booking or reservation?

Email events [AT] dancingmanbrewery.co.uk  or call 023 8083 6666 as soon as you can. We will absolutely do our best to assist you but we can’t guarantee that we will be able to meet your requests. We ask that any additional cost for changes by you be paid as soon as your request is confirmed.

What happens if you have to cancel your booking or reservation?

Oh no! What a shame.
Please email events [AT] dancingmanbrewery.co.uk  or call 023 8083 6666 . We will contact you by phone or email to confirm receipt of your cancellation. You will receive an email confirming cancellation charges (if applicable).

Cancellation charges

Please contact us directly.

What happens if we (TDM) have to make a change or cancel your booking or reservation?

If there is a change to or cancellation of your booking/reservation we will do our utmost to offer a suitable alternative and to make things right for you.

Force Majeure

At the TDM we will bend over backwards to help you have the best time ever…however, even we can’t control the natural forces of nature and other serious stuff that sometimes disrupts things. This means that TDM can’t accept liability if your booking or reservation is cancelled due to anything resembling the following: adverse weather conditions and fire. We think it unlikely to ever happen in Southampton but this also covers industrial dispute, natural or nuclear disaster, war or threat of war, riot, civil strife, terrorist activity or actual threatened terrorist activity…and all similar events that are outside of our control.

If you are arranging a large event with us, such as a wedding, for example, it is always wise to make sure you have suitable insurance cover. This is your responsibility.

Unhappy about anything at TDM?

We can’t stress enough how important it is to us that you, your family and friends have the best time at TDM. Sometimes things don’t come together as you’d hoped – if this happens, this is what to do:

  1. Speak to a TDM member of staff to see if they can help.
  2. If they can’t, ask them to get the duty manager.
Explain to them what’s happened and allow them time to see if they can fix the problem there and then. If you’re still unhappy, please email…
  3. Email Mandy within 14 days of the date of your visit to TDM
    mandy [AT] dancingmanbrewery.co.uk

In your email, please include the date and time of your booking/reservation, and explain the details that caused your unhappiness. We will always respond. Please allow us 14 days (from the date you send the email) to do so. We will do our utmost to resolve the issue to your satisfaction.

Visiting the The Dancing Man

Disabled access and toilets

There is a wheelchair ramp on the ground flood, enabling access to the brewery bar and lift. The lift can be found towards the back of the ground floor to take you to the first floor. In the event of a fire, there is a refuge room on the first floor, just outside of the lift.
The disabled toilet can be found on the ground floor.

There are both Ladies and Gents toilets on the ground and first floors.

Baby changing facilities

The baby changing unit is situated in the disabled toilet on the ground floor.

Well-behaved children are welcome in the restaurant at TDM. Exploring is fine but please do not let them run around. We don’t have a specific menu for children – we figure that they’re just small adults therefore half an adult portion (and price) should be just fine!

Budding artists? Crayons and paper are available for TDM inspired works of art (we sometime put them up behind the bar or on the office wall). No drawing on the furniture or walls though!

We welcome dogs (on a lead) and are happy for them to be upstairs or down. We always have fresh water, dog treats (behind the bar), poo bags and even a special section for dogs on our main menu!

Special requests and medical problems

If you have any special requests or medical problems that might effect your visit, please contact us via the website or give TDM a call, to discuss. We will be happy to do what we can to help.

Vegetarian and vegan options

We have V&V options marked on the menu, and we brew vegan beer but due to its popularity, its best to phone and check its availability!

If you have any food or drink allergies please check out the Menu section of our website (you can download a comprehensive list of information). Alternatively,  contact us via the website or give TDM a call, to discuss. We have allergy information available and will do what we can to help.

Our neighbours

Please be respectful of our neighbours when coming to and leaving TDM: keep the noise down and certainly don’t drop rubbish or leave our glassware anywhere outside of TDM.

Town Quay Park

We’re lucky enough to be situated next to this lovely park area, maintained by a group of volunteers. While you’re welcome to enjoy the park, you are not permitted to take any drinks or food from TDM. This would be against our licensing agreement, sorry. If you do decide to drink there, we will ask you to move back to TDM to keep us within the law.

The spiral stair case, mezzanine and balcony (on the first floor)

Unfortunately, this is out of bounds to guests.

Behaviour of guests

We are required by law to refuse alcohol to guests who have obviously been ‘over served’ (drunk). Drunken, abusive or threatening behaviour will not be tolerated and you will be asked to leave the premises.

Please do not attempt to buy alcohol if you are under 18. We operate a ‘check 21’ policy at TDM. This means if you look under 21 you will be asked to provide ID to prove that you’re 18 or over.

Zero tolerance

TDM operates a zero tolerance policy on drugs. Please never bring drugs to TDM.

Search policy

A random search policy of all guests may be implemented depending on prevailing conditions, risk assessment or police advice. Guests are advised that TDM works continually with local authorities to ensure this venue is fully compliant on all aspects of health and safety and crime and disorder. CCTV is in operation throughout the building for your protection.

In the event of a fire

Please leave the building by the nearest exit, and make your way to the front terrace.
